30+ years in tech: embracing change, challenges, and opportunity

Meet Anna Roshage: A woman with a career spanning decades in tech and marketing, witnessing and embracing the industry’s evolution.

With over 30 years in the tech industry, Anna Roshage, Partner Marketing Manager at Foxway, has seen it all. Through years of innovation and change, she has remained energized by the people, the transformation, and the endless opportunities the industry offers. For Anna, challenges aren’t obstacles—they’re just part of the journey. But what’s her secret weapon for staying ahead? Let’s find out.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey in the tech industry? How did you get started and what inspired you to pursue a career in tech?

Oh, where to begin! My journey in tech started back when computers were the size of refrigerators, and the word “internet” hardly existed. I initially started working at InOffice, which later became Supplies Team, because of the wonderful people and team spirit, not because of an interest in IT or tech. Their passion and collaboration were infectious, and I got stuck (in a positive way) in the industry. It’s been an amazing journey driven by the incredible people I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

Over your 30+ years in tech, what are some of the biggest changes you’ve witnessed?

From the rise of the internet, the launch of iPad, to the birth of social media, the explosion of mobile technology, and of course AI, it’s been a whirlwind! But perhaps the most significant change has been the shift from physical products to service-oriented solutions.

Have you faced any challenges as a woman in tech? If so, how did you overcome them?

Challenges? Absolutely. But I like to think of them as opportunities. Whether it was navigating a male-dominated boardroom or dealing with stereotypes, my focus has always been on people, not genders. Building strong relationships, staying true to my values, and never underestimating the power of a good sense of humor have been my secret weapons.

The role of women in tech: Do you think opportunities for women in tech have improved over the years? If so, in what ways?

Without a doubt, yes! Opportunities have improved, but there’s still work to be done. Today, there are more initiatives, networks, and mentorship programs for supporting women in tech. Companies are also increasingly recognising the value of diverse teams. It’s a slow but steady climb, and we’re making progress one step at a time

What progress still needs to be made in the industry, and how can companies and leaders better support diversity in tech? What do you hope the tech industry will look like for future generations of women?

There’s always room for growth. Companies need to continue supporting inclusive cultures, providing equal opportunities. Leaders should encourage diversity and lead by example. For future generations, I hope the tech industry becomes a place where diversity is not just accepted but celebrated, and where everyone has the chance to grow and develop.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in tech?

Go for it! Embrace your passion, stay curious, and never stop learning. Surround yourself with supportive people, seek out mentors, and don’t be afraid to take risks.

If you could describe your career in one word, what would it be and why?

Transformative. My career has been a journey of constant change, growth, and evolution. From the early days of 3.5” floppy disks to cloud computing, each phase has been a transformative experience. But in the end – it is all about the people and the amazing and exciting experiences over the years.

What does Women’s Day mean to you personally, and how do you think it relates to the tech industry?

Women’s Day is a celebration of determination, progress, and potential. It’s a day to honor the achievements of women around the world and reflect on the journey ahead. In the tech industry, it’s a reminder of the importance of diversity and the contributions women make to driving innovation and shaping the future.
